Malaysia's inflation falls 1.4 pct in December 2020

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's inflation, as measured by consumer price index (CPI), declined 1.4 percent year on year in December 2020, official data showed Friday.

According to the Malaysian Statistics Department, the decrease in the overall index was led by a 8.4-percent decline in transport followed by a 3.3-percent drop in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.

Nevertheless, food and non-alcoholic beverages, which contributed 29.5 percent of CPI weight, increased by 1.4 percent.

The CPI for the year 2020 registered a decrease of 1.2 percent as compared to last year. Enditem
