ACCRA, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo late Friday swore into office the first batch of 28 ministers to assist him in running the affairs of government in his second term.

"I urge you to provide leadership that will ensure that the work we are embarking on benefits the progress of our nation and help raise the living standards of our people," the president said.

The Ghanaian president in January submitted 46 minister-nominees to the country's Parliament for vetting and approval in accordance with Article 78(1) of Ghana's 1992 Constitution.

After days of vetting, the legislative body on Tuesday approved 13 minister-nominees and subsequently 16 more late Thursday to be sworn into office by the president as ministers.

Out of the 29 vetted and approved by Parliament, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs minister-nominee Ebenezer Jojo Kum could not be sworn into office because he was indisposed.

With the first batch of ministers in office, Nana Akufo-Addo's government for his second term is taking shape. Enditem
