WASHINGTON, March 17 (Xinhua) -- An armed man was arrested by D.C. police officers shortly after noon on Wednesday near U.S. vice presidential residence, which is now vacant due to ongoing renovation.
According to multiple U.S. reports, Paul Murray, 31, from San Antonio, Texas, had been detained by the U.S. Secret Service. Metropolitan Police Department officers then arrested and charged him with four counts: carrying a dangerous weapon, carrying a rifle or shotgun outside a business, possession of unregistered ammunition, and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
Police also recovered a rifle and ammunition from Murray's vehicle. Murray was said to be experiencing paranoid delusions and thought the government was after him, according to media reports citing internal police bulletin.
The site of Murray's apprehension is close to Number One Observatory Circle, which has been the vice presidential residence since the late 1970s.
Vice President Kamala Harris is not living there as it has been undergoing a renovation since former Vice President Mike Pence left in January. Instead, Harris lives at Blair House, the president's official guest house near the White House. Enditem
