Taiwan adds five new COVID-19 cases

TAIPEI, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Five individuals tested positive for COVID-19 in Taiwan on Monday, raising the island's total infections to 540, the island's epidemic monitoring agency said.

Among the new cases, one Taiwan resident and one Filipino national both flew into Taiwan from the Philippines on Oct. 4 and tested positive after completing their quarantine, the agency said, adding that neither had developed any symptoms.

The other three were a Taiwan resident returning from France on Oct. 11, an Indonesian student arriving in Taiwan on Oct. 3, and a Russian student who landed in Taiwan on Oct. 9.

Among the total confirmed cases in Taiwan, seven have died, 493 have recovered, and 40 others remain hospitalized, according to the agency. Enditem
