BEIJING, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Johan Eliasch, the CEO of International sports giant Head, was newly-elected as the president of the International Ski Federation (FIS) on Friday in the online-hold 52nd International Ski Congress.

The Swedish billionaire, put forward by GB Snowsport, was elected FIS new president by earning 54.82 percent of the vote with 65 votes.

Other candidates included Britain's Sarah Lewis, nominated by the Royal Belgian Federation, Swedish Olympic Committee president and FIS vice-president Mats Arjes, and Urs Lehmann, a former men's world downhill champion from Switzerland.

"I will be engaged, open-minded and transparent and a president that represents all nations and all disciplines and now let us go to work," said the new president.

Friday's Congress also elected the FIS' 16-member Council. Zheng Liangcheng was elected the only Chinese representative of the Council.

Both the president and Council will serve a term through the next International Ski Congress, which will take place in late Spring 2022. Enditem
