New Zealand rower Twigg wins women's single sculls at Tokyo Olympics

TOKYO, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Five-time world medalist Emma Twigg of New Zealand cruised to women's singles sculls gold at the Sea Forest Waterway here on Friday.

The 2014 world champion led from the beginning to the end, finishing in seven minutes and 13.97 seconds, a new Olympic best time 4.15 seconds faster than the previous mark set by German Katrin Rutschow-Stomporowski at Athens 2004.

Hanna Prakatsen of the ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) claimed a silver in 7:17.39 and Magdalena Lobnig of Austria took the bronze clocking 7:19.72.
