BANGKOK, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's co-payment campaign for consumers nationwide will be carried out in Phase 2 upon the start of next year, confirmed Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith on Thursday.

The Phase 2 of the government's co-payment campaign, primarily designed to stimulate domestic consumption, is scheduled to begin on the upcoming January 1, according to the finance minister.

The co-payment campaign provides for each Thai to only pay half the price of a product or service at participating restaurants, cafes and grocery stores with the balance being paid by the government. Each eligible individual is provided a maximum of 150 baht (about 4.95 U.S. dollars) daily or 3,000 baht (about 99 U.S. dollars) in total under the government campaign.

More than 557,000 restaurants, cafes and grocery stores nationwide have so far participated in the campaign with 10 million people having been targeted as eligible recipients.

Arkhom said those who are currently eligible to the co-payment campaign will be automatically entitled to Phase 2 on condition that they have spent up the 3,000-baht total provided in Phase 1 by December 31. Enditem
