SANTIAGO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The Chilean Ministry of Health reported 7,945 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Sunday and 133 more deaths.

According to the ministry, the number of accumulated cases has risen to 1,076,499, with 45,792 patients in the active stage of the disease, while the death toll has risen to 24,346.

Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris said that cases have risen 15 percent in the last 14 days and that only seven regions have seen cases decrease in this time period.

Paris urged the public to "maintain self-care measures at all times, which are small actions that can be a great help to avoid new infections," as "the pandemic continues to affect us strongly and we cannot lower our guard."

He also encouraged citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19 according to the schedule provided in the official calendar, which this week has opened vaccinations to people between 48 and 49 years old. Enditem
