KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Badminton World Federation (BWF) president and Olympic gold medalist Poul-Erik Hoyer Larsen is set to be re-elected for another term during the 82nd BWF Annual General Meeting (AGM) in May.

According to the candidates released by BWF on Wednesday, Larsen is the only candidate for the presidency. The other two positions up for elections - BWF deputy president and BWF vice president responsible for Para Badminton - also see incumbents return as the only candidate.

The incumbents for those positions stand to be re-elected unopposed, signaling continuity at the top of the BWF leadership, said the world badminton governing body.

During his career as a shuttler, Larsen became a gold medalist in men's singles at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. He also won two All-England Open Badminton Championships in 1995 and 1996, and the European Badminton Championships in 1992, 1994 and 1996.

Larsen later became president of Badminton Europe in 2010 before being elected BWF president in 2013. He was re-elected as BWF president in 2017.

The 55-year-old Danish revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease but said it had not impeded him from performing his duty as BWF president.

The BWF AGM, to be held virtually on May 22, 2021, will also elect 20 BWF Council members from 30 candidates which includes Zhang Jun, president of the Chinese Badminton Association. Enditem
