HAVANA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Cuba reported on Thursday 1,158 new COVID-19 infections and 12 more deaths, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 153,578 and the death toll to 1,057, the Ministry of Public Health said.
Of the total number of cases reported in the last day, 1,115 were from community transmission, the ministry's director of hygiene and epidemiology Francisco Duran reported.
Havana remains the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, with another 428 daily infections and an incidence rate of 317.8 per 100,000 inhabitants, the highest on the island.
The ministry, which has been carrying out a vaccination campaign in seven of Havana's municipalities, announced earlier this week that starting on June 14, it will extend immunization to the entire capital.
Havana's 2.2 million residents are expected to be completely immunized by the end of July.
The drive also continues in the provinces of Pinar del Rio, Matanzas, Santiago de Cuba and the Special Municipality of Isla de la Juventud.
The most advanced Cuban vaccines, Soberana-02 and Abdala, are being used, while three other candidates, Soberana-01, Soberana Plus and Mambisa, are in different phases of clinical trials.
So far, more than 3 million Cubans have received at least one vaccine dose. Enditem
