ANKARA, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar and his U.S. counterpart Lloyd Austin on Wednesday had a "constructive and positive" phone call on the issue of a plan to run and secure Kabul airport, Turkey's defense ministry said.

The ministers discussed the progress achieved during the meetings held last month between the technical delegations of the two countries, according to the ministry statement.

Both agreed to continue the talks on Thursday, the statement said.

Turkey has proposed to secure and run Kabul's Hamid Karzai International Airport after the withdrawal of NATO forces in war-torn Afghanistan.

A U.S. delegation had talks in Turkey's capital Ankara on June 24-25 on the issues of logistic and financial support for the mission. Enditem
