Leicester's Fofana breaks leg in horror tackle in pre-season warm-up game
LONDON, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Leicester City's French defender Wesley Fofana has confirmed that he fractured his fibula after suffering a bad tackle during his side's warm-up game against Spanish side Villarreal on Wednesday night.
Fofana was caught late by a dreadful challenge from Villarreal forward, Fer Nino, who then fell onto the back of his leg, in the second half of a game Leicester won 3-2, after cruising into a 3-0 lead.
The central defender had to be given oxygen on the pitch before being carried off on a stretcher.
He later posted the extent of his injury on social media, confirming he will be out for several months.
"Hello guys, many thanks for all your messages. It is a bad day today but I am in a tremendous club with a wonderful medical team. I will give you news as soon as I have a final diagnosis but we already know that I have a fibula fracture. I will come soon and stronger: do not worry."
The 20-year-old was excellent for Leicester last season after joining from Saint-Etienne, making 38 appearances as the club challenged all campaign for a top-four finish, before finishing fifth and also winning the FA Cup for the first time in its history.
Leicester are due to play Premier League winners, Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday. Enditem
