South Sudan requests to use Tanzania's major port

DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan, a landlocked country in eastern-central Africa, on Wednesday requested Tanzania to allow it to use the country's major Dar es Salaam port.

A statement issued by the Directorate of Presidential Communications at State House said the request to use the port was made by Albino Ayuel Aboug, South Sudan's President Salva Kiir's special envoy, when he held talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

According to the statement, Aboug said South Sudan was looking forward to exporting and importing its cargo through the Dar es Salaam port that also serves other landlocked countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

For her part, President Hassan said Tanzania was ready to allow South Sudan to use the Dar es Salaam port to enable the landlocked country improve its economy.

"Tanzania and South Sudan are long time friendly countries. Our cooperation will be sustained for the benefit of both countries," said the president. Enditem
