JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Consulate-General in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday donated stationery worth over R100,000 (about 6,697 U.S. dollars) to the Kholwani Primary School in Soweto township.

Consul General Tang Zhongdong handed over the donation to school principal Busisiwe Mbuyisa. The donation included books, pencils, ball pens, and sharpeners.

"With this stationery donation, we hope that it will provide better learning conditions for you as scholars and help you exert your talents," said Tang, adding that he would like to see more people-to-people and school exchanges between South Africans and Chinese. Tang encouraged learners to concentrate on learning.

"I am excited about the donation. It will help us a lot since many parents did not pay school fees. Most of the parents are not working and this donation would help the school and the community at large. We are planning to have a long-lasting relationship with the Chinese Consulate," Mbuyisa said.

Mbali Makhubo from the school governing board told Xinhua that the donation will go a long way in helping the school which lacks learning aids.

The Chinese consulate-general donates to schools facing challenges in Gauteng Province, where Johannesburg is located, every year. Enditem
