Iran reports 7,515 new COVID-19 cases, 5,773,419 in total

TEHRAN, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Iran on Saturday reported 7,515 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 5,773,419.

The pandemic claimed 181 lives in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 123,876, said the update by Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

A total of 5,309,992 people have recovered from the disease or been discharged from hospitals across the country, while 4,840 remain in intensive care units, according to the ministry.

By Saturday, 48,015,159 Iranians have received their first doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and 23,343,118 of them have taken two jabs.

The report added that 33,898,978 tests have so far been carried out across the country.

Speaking on Saturday at a meeting of the National Task Force Against Coronavirus, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that the public vaccination must continue, while the process of reopening must be carefully planned and monitored so that the public health is not endangered. Enditem
