Indonesia reports 612 newly-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 34 more deaths
JAKARTA, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia on Tuesday confirmed 612 new COVID-19 cases, raising its tally of infections to 4,245,373, according to the country's Health Ministry.
The ministry reported that the death toll from the virus in the country rose by 34 to 143,457, while 868 more people recovered during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 4,090,287.
Indonesia started mass COVID-19 vaccinations on Jan. 13 after the authorities approved the emergency use of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine.
More than 120.88 million people have received their first doses of vaccines, while over 74.80 million have taken the second doses. Indonesia has so far administered over 196.83 million doses, including the third booster jabs.
The country's Drugs and Foods Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has approved the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for children aged between six and 11 years old.
At a press conference on Monday, the agency's chief Penny Lukito said that COVID-19 vaccination for children is important to increase the confidence of parents to send their children to school.
According to the Health Ministry, vaccinations for children in Indonesia may start early next year. Enditem
